Today was a magical day when I swapped bodies with my son-in-law. I woke up feeling unusually strong like a weight had been lifted off my joints. The usual stiffness in my fingers was gone, and I couldn’t help but feel a spark of excitement.
As soon as I realized what was happening, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I felt a little mischievous and dressed myself in my floral blouse and tights despite not being in my feminine body.
I grabbed my knitting bag, which had been sitting idle for far too long. The yarn felt soft and inviting in my slightly rough but nimble hands, almost like it was welcoming me back. I picked up my needles and started on a cozy scarf I’d been dreaming about for months. Each stitch felt effortless, my hands moving with a fluidity that seemed almost miraculous.
I marveled at how quickly the pattern began to emerge. The rhythm of the knitting was soothing, almost like a dance I hadn’t practiced in ages but still remembered. I could see the colors of the yarn blending together, and with each row, the scarf was taking shape beautifully.
There was a joy in the simple act of knitting that day, a joy I hadn’t felt in a long time. I let myself get lost in the rhythm, allowing my thoughts to drift with the flow of the yarn.
I paused my knitting when from the other room, I heard a high-pieced shriek as my son-in-law awakes in my former body. I knew the agony that he must be feeling. The pain from seemingly every joint, fingers, elbows, knees, and other joints. I hope he doesn't try to get out of bed too fast, if he does, he'll probably land right on his face. If that happens, I might have to change my clothes and finish my knitting in the hospital waiting room.
